To be able to effectively carry out this project I have been tasked with going through the stages of planning, I will firstly start with idea generation which will allow me to showcase my ideas and sum up as to what ideas I feel are feasible and can be created during the timeframe. After idea generation and settling on an idea to carry out I will then look at gathering my image and video sources to then develop a detailed blueprint and asset list that will detail all of the assets needed for the project and also the blueprint and layout of the building that I intend to recreate in Unreal Engine 5.

Idea 1:

 

The first idea that I have for this project is to recreate McDonalds in Unreal using assets designed in Maya because I have a friend who works in McDonalds and also the location is close by so I would be able to easily record videos and take pictures of the location. The restaurant is located in Boreham outside of Chelmsford, this is close by to where I live and can be easily accessed during the week, the only downfall is that McDonald restaurants are generally busy any time of the day so taking pictures and videos would have to be done very early in the morning or during quiet periods in the day.

 

This idea fits perfectly within the requirements of the project because the restaurant features many different rooms, as the requirements are that I need to design more than a couple of rooms. In addition, I need to ensure that the design of the building features only a closed space and also lighting throughout, this is perfect as McDonalds has a large enclosed eating area and also kitchen, in addition the eating areas are divided into several areas separated by walls and partitions. 

 

Idea 2:

 

The second idea that I have for this project is to recreate an office space in Unreal Engine, more specifically the Barclays office in Canary Wharf, I will yet again be using Maya to design my assets and then porting them over to Unreal to add to the workspace. This idea meets all of the requirements just like the McDonalds idea because the office features an enclosed space with several separate office rooms. In addition, my Uncle works in this office everyday so information about the building, videos and photos will be easily accessible by me through my Uncle, the only downside is that I will not be able to travel to the office to have a look in person because of travel constraints, but I will use the images and videos appropriately if I am to move forward with this idea. In addition, I have been to the office before so I will be able to fill in any blanks that are not represented in images or videos. 

 

Idea 3:

 

My third and final idea is to recreate yet again another office space but this time it will be from my Cousins Boyfriend who works in an accounting office in Greenwich, this idea may not be 100% achievable as he only works in the offices on Mondays and Tuesdays and the rest he completes from home, so pictures of the office space may not be available to me until next week if I am to proceed with this idea. Yet again this building will meet all of the requirements because I have a link with the company, the office will be an enclosed space and also lighting and separate rooms will be featured throughout the office space. The major downside to this idea is that,unlike the Barclays Office idea, I have limited access to windows that I can get photos from my relatives and also I have never visited this office so I will not be able to fill in any gaps in photo references. 

 

Out of all three of these ideas I believe that to be able to fully stretch my capability I will choose my second idea to recreate an office space in Barclays Bank Office in Canary Wharf, this is dependent on access to images and video references because I know sometimes photos or videos are not permitted in buildings such as this. As a fall back I will keep my friend who works in McDonalds on standby to get any photos or videos just in case access to photos or videos are not permitted. I have chosen the Barclays office idea because it will allow me to use more of the photo references because I have not frequently visited the building unlike McDonalds, so this idea will stretch my planning and ultimately rely on my interpretation of image references not visual memory, as in industry you often use image references when 3D modelling and not just creating an asset or environment based on memory.
